Munshiganj District Police arrested 766 people and filed 559 cases under the Narcotics Control Act over the past six months as part of an intensified crackdown on the illegal drug trade, officials said Friday.
Superintendent of Police Minhajul Alam said the operations targeted known hotspots across the district, including areas in Louhajang associated with the Bede community, and were carried out under a stated zero-tolerance policy on narcotics.
According to police figures, the raids led to the recovery of more than 43,000 yaba tablets, 166 grams of heroin, 62 grams of crystal meth, dozens of bottles of Phensedyl, and quantities of cannabis, hemp and foreign liquor and beer.
The SP said intelligence surveillance in the district has since been stepped up to curb further distribution of narcotics, and that police would continue similar drives in the coming months.
