Bangladesh's women's handball team finished second in the Begum Khaleda Zia IHF Nations Trophy after losing 28-16 to India in the final at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Paltan on Thursday, The Daily Star reported.

Bangladesh stayed close early and trailed 14-9 at half-time, but could not convert many chances after the break. The hosts had lost 47-13 to India in the group stage, making the final a far closer contest.

India goalkeeper Diksha Kumari was named player of the match, and her teammate Bhawana Sharma player of the tournament.

Captain Ismetara Nishi said the team needs more competition. "Honestly, we don't get tournaments. We played international games in 2019, and then played again in 2024," she said.
