Money sent home by Bangladeshis working abroad is flowing through BRAC Bank at a record pace. The bank said on 29 September that it handled $2.5 billion in inward remittances in the first nine months of 2026, already above its previous full-year record of $2.2 billion, set in 2025.

It is the fifth year in a row of growth, and the bank has set a target of $3 billion for the full year.

What is driving the growth

  • More partnerships with remittance companies and banks in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific
  • Direct technology links (APIs) that make transfers faster
  • A wide branch and agent-banking network that reaches rural families
  • Products built for non-resident Bangladeshis, such as Probashi accounts and offshore banking

Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the milestone reflects the trust that expatriate Bangladeshis and international partners place in the bank, and that it plans to offer more value-added, tailor-made services for wage earners.

A strong year so far

The remittance figures follow strong half-year results. For January to June 2026, BRAC Bank reported net profit after tax of Tk 1,423 crore, up 57% from a year earlier. Customer deposits passed Tk 97,000 crore, up 25%, and loans reached Tk 76,000 crore, up 18%. Its cost-to-income ratio improved from 48% to 42%.

For families in Bikrampur and across the diaspora, including in the United States, faster and cheaper formal channels mean more of every dollar reaches home.
