Unit-1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna has successfully completed a high-pressure test of its Pressure Operated Relief Valve (PORV) system at 16 megapascals. Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) said the test was carried out on 29 and 30 September.
During the test, engineers checked how the valves performed when operated from both the Main Control Room and the Emergency Control Room. The response of the Main Safety Valves was also found to be satisfactory.
Before and during the procedure, teams reviewed all safety systems, communication arrangements, fire safety measures and radiation protection. The next stage, at a pressure of about 18 megapascals, is expected to begin shortly.
NPCBL said each stage of commissioning is being completed only after full verification. The successful test marks steady progress toward bringing the country's first nuclear power unit into operation.
